SUNDAY MATINEE
The Sunday Matinee series in Lavaterhaus is an offering filled with live music, poetry recitation, and story telling that are based on the experience we share together as everyday human beings who are going through similar situations, and to build upon this shared identity a stronger sense of community and culture. The goal of our series is to break the boundaries between the audience and the performer by inviting everyone into the conversation of communicative art and making the floor a less formal and more interactive space for sharing.
In the third edition of Sunday Matinee, we will explore the evolution of “sonata form” from the classical period until mid 20th century. Composers such as Haydn, Schubert, Poulenc and Shostakovich each explored the same form with very personal take. We will hear poems which inspired these composers in their creative process.
In the series, we endeavour to introduce lesser known works such as the 2nd piano sonata by Shostakovich and Poulenc cello sonata together with popular works from the classical period. We hope this musical menu will spike a fresh taste for our appreciation of the traditional sonata form.
