SUNDAY MATINEE

Hosted by Yilan Zhao, the Sunday Matinée series in Lavatersaal, Zürich is an offering filled with live music, poetry recitation, and story telling that are based on the experience we share together as everyday human beings who are going through similar situations in life. This shared identity gives all of us a stronger sense of community and culture. The goal of our series is to break the boundaries between audience and performers by inviting everyone into the conversation of communicative art and making the floor a less formal and more interactive space for sharing.

In the fourth edition of Sunday Matinée at Lavatersaal, we will hear a breathtaking aria from the operatic version of "Romeo and Juliet" by Bellini alongside aria from a rarely performed opera by Donizetti. Both inspired by dance, the violin Partita by Bach and valses by Ravel will take you for a swing ride. Also not to be missed is the 2nd cello sonata by Czech composer Martinů. His unusual blend of folk music, jazz and neoclassicism will offer you a thrilling experience unlike any other composers.
